Location: BME Building Q, room QB-331
Date and time: 05 December 2023, 10:00
Selfdiagnostics is an Estonian-German company with a vision of democratizing molecular diagnostics. The company pioneered online sales of rapid diagnostics tests, as well as developed and now manufactures Europe’s first pocket PCR test, the Multitest. The founder and CEO of Selfdiagnostics, Marko Lehes, will present the story behind the Multitest’s concept, creation and commercialization. The presentation serves as a case study of developing and successfully commercializing an innovative medical device from scratch. Marko will share his experience and share valuable insight into technical, personal and financial challenges that arose as Selfdiagnostics transformed from a startup into a small enterprise that today has active sites in both Estonia and Germany.
Marko Lehes Founder and CEO of Selfdiagnostics Deutschland GmbH, OEM and developer of the Multitest, one of the world’s first pocket PCR tests, has close to 20 years’ experience in DeepTech and startups investments. Originally educated in technical physics, he has worked since 2009 with an agile, interdisciplinary team of experts to deliver one of (if not the) first pocket PCR tests, the Multitest. The company has acquired over 20 million euros in funding, and has deployed 3 variants of the Multitest, one for STDs (sexually transmitted diseases), one for Covid-19 and one universal platform, which the company’s partners outfit with reagents.
